The Client

For 33 years, The Legal 500 has been analysing the capabilities of law firms across the world, with a comprehensive research programme revised and updated every year to bring the most up-to-date vision of the global legal market. The Legal 500 assesses the strengths of law firms in over 150 jurisdictions, the results of which can be viewed free of charge at legal500.com.

The rankings are based on a range of criteria, but simply put, highlight the practice area teams who are providing the most cutting edge and innovative advice to corporate counsel. Our research is based on feedback from more than 300,000 clients worldwide each year, submissions from law firms and interviews with leading private practice lawyers, and a team of researchers who have unrivalled experience in the legal market.

The Legal 500 produces a wide-ranging series of resources for in-house lawyers including roundtables, client insight reports, and recognises and rewards the best in-house lawyers through our GC Powerlist series and The Legal 500 Awards series.

The Challenge

The Legal 500 required additional resources to meet the full scope of a new, upgradedlegal500.com platform, which involved intricate domain modelling, data migration, API architecture, and front-end integration. They were about halfway through the delivery schedule before engaging with OB Collective. The new website build involved a fairly meticulous data migration from the existing v1 WordPress databases to a new Mongo database as an interim webcache optimised for the new website. To deliver the full scope of the website on time, The Legal 500 required additional engineering support, who were able to become highly productive within the team immediately and have a real impact on delivery deadlines.

The Solution

OB Collective was able to screen and deploy 3 full-stack engineers within 7 days and integrated them into the existing team. Once on-site, OB Collective were able to assist with all aspects of the full stack, from database and API to front-end, helping design the data model and typescript GQL API, as well as analysis for the business logic for page data behaviour and performance optimisation.

It's been a great little success story, under very challenging circumstances. OB Collective’s honesty and straightforward approach allowed us to augment a team very fast, which meant we were able to get the project over the line, in a very short time window, really hitting the ground running... which isn't easy!
